Partner Success Story: Payfacto

Partner Success Story: PayFacto, PAXCON 2025, Karen Cox, Arcelia Arcy Stevens, PAX Technology Inc., North America

How PayFacto Scaled Faster and Smarter with PAX Technology

At PAXCON 2025, one of the standout sessions came from PayFacto’s Chief Product Officer, Karen Cox, who joined PAX Technology VP of Major Accounts – Canada, Arcy (Arcelia) Stevens, on stage for an in‑depth conversation about partnership, innovation, and high‑pressure payments modernization. What unfolded was a candid, behind‑the‑scenes look at how PayFacto successfully migrated more than 25,000 devices in just 10 weeks—an almost unheard‑of timeline in the payments industry—and how the company continues using PAX hardware and software to drive growth in restaurant and hospitality verticals across North America and beyond.

On stage, Arcy Stevens sat down with Karen Cox to share how the two companies partnered during one of the most demanding technology transformations in PayFacto’s history—and emerged stronger, faster, and ready for the future.

A Payments Leader with a Unique Model

PayFacto is no ordinary payments company. Based in Montreal, PayFacto offers full acquiring and payments with its own proprietary technology, while also operating as an Independent Software Vendor (ISV).

“We’re unique in that we offer full acquiring and payments with our own technology while also acting as our own ISV,” said Cox. “We’ve brought together a strong portfolio of restaurant software and field service companies to serve the restaurant market across Canada and Quebec, as well as the UK and the U.S.”

Through our portfolio of restaurant software and field service companies, we deliver tailored solutions primarily across Canada and Quebec, but also in the UK and U.S.”

The Challenge: A Massive Migration on a Tight Timeline

Like many long-standing payments providers, PayFacto faced a reality the industry knows well: technology reaches end-of-life. When PayFacto received notice that its existing payments technology would be sunset, the clock started ticking.

The challenge was enormous:

  • · Replace technology from the ground up
  • · Design, build, certify, and deploy a new platform
  • · Support mobile, unattended, and attended environments
  • · Migrate 25,000 terminals
  • · Complete everything within 12 months

“There was a literal cliff at the end,” said Cox. “Where merchants would stop processing.”

Why PayFacto Chose PAX

With an aging terminal fleet and a critical timeline, PayFacto needed more than hardware—they needed a true technology partner.

PAX stood out for several reasons:

  • · Common kernel architecture, allowing PayFacto to develop once and deploy across devices
  • · Robust developer tools for building custom payment applications
  • · Support for partner and ISV applications
  • · A proven ecosystem for remote application and software management

Just as important as the technology was the support.

“We stress-tested everything PAX talks about,” Cox noted. “And it worked.”

Executing at Scale with PAXSTORE

A key enabler of PayFacto’s success was PAXSTORE, PAX’s application and device management platform.

Within a 10-week window, PayFacto successfully pushed new software to more than 25,000 terminals without disrupting merchants’ day-to-day operations.

“The hardware was already in place months before,” Cox explained. “Our customers went to bed processing on one platform and woke up the next morning live on a completely new one.”

Behind the scenes, the PAX team provided hands-on support, including late-night emergency releases and rapid approvals, ensuring PayFacto could meet every milestone.

What’s in Market Today, and What’s Next

Today, PayFacto leverages a broad range of PAX Android devices across its restaurant and hospitality footprint, including:

This unified platform enables PayFacto to deploy solutions across full-service restaurants, QSRs, kiosks, mobile delivery, and online ordering—all while maintaining a consistent development approach.

Looking ahead, PayFacto is already preparing for the next generation of innovation, including:

  • · Transitioning to next-gen PAX devices such as A920Pro PCI 7 and Elys Solution
  • · Exploring mobile solutions like the A6650 and A6630
  • · Launching a next-generation cloud POS for hospitality, aligned with PAX’s workstation and tablet ecosystem

Success Driven by Demanding Customers

One of PayFacto’s most powerful success stories comes from its most demanding customers: large restaurant chains in Quebec that use every possible deployment model from kiosks to mobile and countertop solutions.

“They really stress-test our solutions,” Cox shared. “They drive us to be better.”

With PAX hardware and PayFacto software working together, these merchants are now actively partnering with PayFacto to bring next-generation POS and payment solutions to market, driving innovation on both sides.

A Partnership Built for What’s Next

For PayFacto, the partnership with PAX wasn’t just about surviving a migration—it was about building a foundation for the future.

“Relatively speaking, the success of that transition was largely due to our partnership with PAX,” said Cox.

As the session wrapped up, Stevens summed it up best: “I cannot wait to hear more success stories at our next PAXCON.”

With PayFacto and PAX continuing to innovate together, there’s no doubt there will be many more to come.
